On March 15, 2025, around 500 Filipino-Australian Seventh-day Adventists across Victoria congregated at Heritage College, Narre Warren campus, to explore the theme 'Sabbath is a Delight'.
This memorable event united church members in worship, Bible study, music, prayer, and fellowship. Attendees travelled from near and far, and the program began at 10:00am to accommodate those with longer travel times. The morning was dedicated to Sabbath School and extended Bible study, allowing participants to dive deeper into God's Word together—a highlight many greatly appreciated.
In a meaningful shift from the usual order of service, divine worship was held in the afternoon. This adjustment allowed members with morning commitments at their local churches to still participate in the larger gathering, ensuring inclusivity and fellowship throughout the day.
Pr Jezreel Locop, currently serving at Clyde Connect, Pakenham, and Longwarry churches, was the keynote speaker. His message focused on the importance of understanding that keeping the Sabbath is a delight, not a burden, because of what Jesus has done for us through Creation and Redemption. He emphasised that the Sabbath is a special time to remember and commune with our Creator and Saviour, a precious opportunity to renew our relationship with God. His message encourages all to delight in the Sabbath and grow deeper in their spiritual walk.
The fellowship was further enriched by the musical ministry of Jeramie Sanico Heitmann, a Filipino-Australian gospel singer, songwriter, and content creator. Her heartfelt songs and testimony lifted spirits and reminded attendees of God's love and calling.
Another highlight of the day was the special items presented by each participating church. These musical numbers and creative presentations showcased each group's talent and dedication; they helped promote deeper fellowship, camaraderie, and a spirit of combined worship. It was a joyful celebration of unity as voices and hearts came together in praise.
Of course, no Filipino gathering would be complete without a feast! A generous lunch featuring delicious Filipino dishes was shared, fostering deeper connections among attendees over food and stories.
Represented churches include Ascot Vale, Clyde, Dandenong, Frankston, Geelong, Hughesdale, Pakenham, Spotswood, Springvale, Westpoint, and many others from across Victoria and overseas guests.
Feedback from attendees was very positive, with comments such as "We should do this more often," or "We can't wait for the next gathering!"
This combined fellowship is now planned to be held twice a year, God willing, with a vision to include fellow believers from across Australia in the future. The event aims to create more meaningful opportunities for worship, testimonies, and mutual encouragement as we prepare for Christ's soon return.
The next combined fellowship is anticipated toward the end of 2025. May all continue to grow in faith and unity—for God's glory alone!
